What are you afraid of? Do you really think that a woman can fight a man? Oh, I don't need that stuff - that's why I carry a gun(or I bought my wife a gun)!! I would have to get in shape before starting anything like that - it's too hard! Don't you think you are too old to be training?

Yep, I have heard all of these things when talking to others about what I do. Yes, we teach punching and groin kicking and technical fighting skills, but we do so much more than that!  We help to instill a sense of confidence by pushing and showing men, women, and children that they can do so much more than they thought they could do!

When I started training in martial arts, I genuinely didn't think that I could effectively defend myself. I loved watching women on TV and in movies who were tough, but I never thought that I could achieve that level of proficiency - in fact, I believed that they were fiction (because they were). I always leaned on my husband to defend me and my children both emotionally and physically. He usually came to my rescue.

However, through my training I have learned that there is so much more inside of me than I ever imagined. I can depend on myself to conquer my worst enemy -- ME! I had beaten myself down pretty badly and my husband couldn't really get inside my head to help me in those alone moments when I was beating myself up. I truly believe that God lead me to train in Krav Maga specifically for my mental and emotional stability!  My training literally lead me to understand that I can buck up, change my internal dialogue, and overcome great challenges!

So, why do I do this? I train to be healthier: mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically!

What am I afraid of? Not much! Even my dreams have changed - no more nightmares.

Do I think that a woman can fight a man? Yes - and  with training, she can be even more effective!

Have a gun? Then I suggest that you train to use it effectively and train getting to it.

Too out of shape/too old? Get out of my head! I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me. I will keep on training as long as I can walk!

I like how you guys teach everyone about confidence. Some people only teach the basics or go straight to the training and not even try to teach them values. As a student, I think it is important for us to learn values in everything we do. Even if its martial arts, karate, doing the laundry or what. Confidence is a big thing for people and one thing they lack too. It's good to know that people still make time to teach them about confidence and finding their inner self.

I think training is really necessary if a person wants to be really prepared. Training helps us become more motivated and confident with what we are about to face. It helps us boost our self esteem. Training gives us the high possibility of winning the contest or whatever it is. And lastly, it gives us the knowledge of what tactics we should take.

Your mindset towards training is truly empowering! I have always though that doing martial arts would just be something that can help people during extreme circumstances, like when they are in danger, but you showed me that martial arts can be something more. Training can do so many good things for you. I have always admired people who get into specific sports and train, but I have always thought that only they could do it but not me. I hope in the future, I can gather up the courage to sign up for a martial arts class. Thank you for this inspiring blog post!
